PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
