Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
